Celtics sign Moore, Marbury expected

The Celtics officially signed 7-footer Mikki Moore for the remainder of the season.  Moore played his first game in a Celtics uniform Wednesday vs Clippers.  Moore played for the Celtics for 3 games during the 2002-2003 season.  The Celtics are also expected to sign guard Stephon Marbury who is expected to be waived by the Knicks Friday.  Marbury has been in a year long feud with the Knicks and has been suspended by team during the whole year.  He hasn't played since last season.  Marbury also said that he is coming to the Celtics.  Just some other news Celtics guard Gabe Pruitt was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

Garnett sidelined 2-3 weeks

Celtics forward Kevin Garnett is expected to be sidelined 2-3 weeks due to a posterior muscle strain of the right knee.  The superstar forward in his second season with the Celtics suffered the injury during Thursday's game against the Jazz.

Celtics trade O'Bryant to Raptors for Solomon

 The Boston Globe is reporting that the Celtics have traded Patrick O' Bryant to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for guard Will Solomon.  Solomon is averaging 4.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in 39 games this year.  Solomon who is 30 years-old is in his second season in the NBA.  O'Bryant who is in his 3rd NBA season as been averaging 1.6 points in 26 games this season with the Celtics.  The 7-foot O'Bryant arrived in Boston as a free-agent during the off-season.  We will have more from this deal when it is confirmed by the Celtics.

Celtics trade Cassell, Tony Allen out for season

Today the Celtics lost two guards.  They traded 39 year-old guard Sam Cassell to the Sacramento Kings for a 2nd round draft pick and cash considerations.  Cassell came to the Celtics last year from the Clippers, but hasn't played at all this year and has acted in a semi-retirement unofficial assistant coach role.  He said numerous times that he would retire after this season and would look to join the Celtics coaching staff.  Now that Cassell is gone there is a roster spot open on the Celtics now that their is only 14 players.  The Celtics would probably look to make a deal around the trade deadline.  According to Boston.com the Kings are expected to waive Cassell.  “Sam was an important piece of our championship team last season. His profound knowledge of the game and his infectious personality will be missed from our locker room. We wish Sam the best of luck.”, said Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge.  The Celtics also confirmed that guard Tony Allen will be out for the regular season, but hopefully could be ready for the playoffs.  The young guard is expected to have surgery on Wednesday.

Ray Allen in all-star game

Celtics guard Ray Allen was chosen as a replacement today for Magic's Jammer Nelson who could not participate in the game.  Allen will play in his 9th all-star game and 2nd with teammates Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.  Allen, 33, is averaging 18.1 points per game this season and was a big star in last years game for the Eastern Conference scoring 28 points as a reserve.

Perkins fined

Celtics center Kendrick Perkins was fined $10,000 by the NBA after a altercation with the Pistions Jason Maxiell.  Perkins put Maxiell in a "head lock" which put Maxiell on the ground.  Maxiell then got up and shoved Perkins.  There was some more pushing and then order was restored by the officials.  After review Perkins was ejected from the game.

Garnett & Pierce make All-star

Celtics forwards Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce will both be playing for the East all-star team this year.  Garnett was voted in as a starter for the team and Pierce as a reserve.  This will be Pierce's 7th time in his 11 year career being a all-star.  Pierce has a team best 18.8 ppg with 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists.   This will be Garnett's 13th all-star appearance.  Celtic's guards Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen were both considered to be strong candidates for reserves but did not make it.

Celtics tie record with 124-105 win

The Celtics made history tonight has they tied a franchise record for most consecutive wins in a season with a 124-105 victory over the Knicks.  Guard Rajon Rondo led the team with 26 points.  The team record for most consecutive wins is 18 which they tied tonight.  The Celtics next game is Tuesday when the 76ers visit TD Banknorth Garden in Boston.  Tip off is at 7:30 on Comcast SportsNet New England.

Celtics win it in Toronto

The Celtics won today 118-103 against the Raptors.  The Celtics were in control of the game through the whole thing.  The Celtics improved to 13-2 with the win.  Kevin Garnett, Tony Allen and Rajon Rondo all had 15 points.  Ray Allen led the team with 21 points.  Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins both recieved technical fouls.  Perkins now leads the league in techs.  The Celtics play Wednesday vs Golden State at 7:30.

Garnett Suspended

Celtics forward Kevin Garnett was suspended 1 game for his actions during his confrontation with Bucks Andrew Bogut.  Garnett will serve his suspension tomorrow night.  The incident happened when Garnett and Bogut both got into a scuffle, which turned into Bogut hitting Garnett in the face and Garnett returning a blow to the Bogut's face.  After review from the referees Bogut was ejected from the game and Garnett received a technical foul.  

 

 

Celtics start season strong

The NBA champion Boston Celtics have started there season out strong with a 8-1 record in their first 9 games.  The Celtics beat the Atlanta Hawks last night in a close game when Paul Pierce won the game with 5 seconds left and one 103-102.  

Opening night

 

The Celtics championship banner celebration started when John Havlicek carried the 2007-2008 Larry O'Brien trophy to center court, where he handed it off to a crying Paul Pierce to a roaring applause from the crowd. Havlicek was joined by Bob Cousy, Jo Jo White, and several other Celtics legends.  The Celtics owners were then announced along with players and coaches who then received there rings.  The team the walked over to center court and raised the 17th championship banner up into the historic rafters where Red Auerbach is looking down smiling and puffing a cigar.  Deep down the players, and all of Celtics nation knew that the 2008 championship mission has begun.

 

Ainge extended and promoted

Celtics Director of Basketball operations/General Manager Danny Ainge's day just got better.  Ainge will not just recieve his championship ring tonight and watch the team that he built raise the franchise's 17th banner, he was also given a contract extension to 2011.  Ainge's whos contract expired after this season also was promoted from his current title of Director of Basketball operations/General Manager to President of Basketball Operations. 

 

Celtics waive Miles

 

The Celtics waived their foward Darius Miles today to cut there roster to 15 players.  Miles has missed the last two seasons will an injury and was suspended by the NBA for the first 10 games of the season for violating the leagues drug policy.  Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge had this to say on the move. "Darius was a model citizen during his time here in Boston. He showed that he still has a lot of basketball left in him." said Ainge said in a press release.  The Celtics season begins October 28 at home against the Cavaliers.
